Cloth Menstrual Pads are Wonderful!

When you make cloth menstrual pads for a living, you tend to get a lot of skeptical looks from people. Surprisingly, I find it more often that it is women who are taken aback than men.

I think it’s because men can look at it more objectively? Generally speaking, males do not have an intimate relationship with a period.

I’m not saying all women are “icked” out by cloth pads, far from! I would not be privileged enough to be an eco-artisan without the support of many people!

I would like to one day see menstruation as less taboo. For the majority of women it’s a simple fact of biology, it’s just another process, and there’s no reason for it to be frowned upon, or made secret.

Cloth menstrual pads are a terrific choice. Most importantly, they’re comfortable! No more itchiness of throwaway paper & plastic “sanitary napkins” (even the term makes me feel ill at ease about menstruation, is it no wonder as a society we like to hide it in the broom closet?).

I’ve been making cloth pads for over 5 years now. I am a small artisan located in Canada, and all my pads are made with Canadian-manufactured earth-friendly fabrics. Please feel free to contact me!

Why don’t Matersum Pads have waterproofing?

So you love the look of Matersum Pads and you love that they 100% certified organic or Eco-friendly but you’re scared to use them because there is no waterproofing. It’s okay. Read on.

You know, one thing I will never understand is this problem that so many guys have with tampons. I can understand being grossed out by menstruation - it’s not pretty (in my personal opinion, at least), and it probably seems like a really weird process to people who don’t menstruate. I know that I…

I generally agree, however it should be pointed out that disposable menstrual products, such as tampons, are NOT sterile.

I made this sign for our house because several of the guys I live with thought it was “disgusting” to see bloody tampons/pads, after a used pad had unfurled from its toliet paper cocoon in the trash.

Lovely!

My friend needs more people to help by filling out this quick survey for her research. She is particularly struggling to find people over 35 and people that are of an ethnicity other than British.

Please could you fill it out and/or pass it along.

Passing it along, folks. Help a researcher out!

Is menstruation gross to you?

So there’s talk lately of how people are disgusted by menstrual blood. Why is it disgusting? What makes it “gross”? Why does what some women do with their menstrual blood get others up in arms?

Menstruation is natural.

Menstrual blood is natural.

The first step to being comfortable in your own body is to understand that its functions are not gross or disgusting, but just functions. Let go of the hatred. Find your love.

The First Step to a More Positive Period is…

… To lose the hatred. One day, I hope the girls and women of the world will no longer curse their ‘curse’ but rather embrace the experience as a part of life. We can make it better. We can accept menstruation as normal. And we can help each other through the rough days.

"Depressing to see girls collude in misogyny, because seeing other women get disrespected makes them feel comparatively better about selves.
Men talking about ANY women in a misogynistic or sexist manner are showing contempt for ALL of us."

About Menstruation

The more time I spend here on Tumblr, the more I realize how (apparently) mystified women and girls are about menstruation.

It doesn’t have to be bad.

It doesn’t have to be painful.

It doesn’t have to be a “curse”.

There are ways to reduce all the side effects.

Please girls, take the time to learn about your body. And if you have any questions, you can always ask!

I am a bio-female who has gone through puberty. I am accurately and fairly universally read this way.

Statistically speaking, it is not unreasonable to assume that at some point or another, I menstruate.

This fact doesn’t offend or shame me in any way. It’s a royal pain and I’d pay to not…

Hear hear, interwebs! It’s time to “bag” the shame!
